What are electoral bonds?

Electoral bonds are financial instruments introduced by the Government of India in 2018 to enable transparent political funding. These bonds allow individuals and corporations to donate money to political parties without revealing their identities. The bonds can be purchased from specified branches of authorized banks and can then be given to registered political parties. This system aims to reduce the use of cash in political donations and increase transparency in political funding.

According to Election Commission of India & Mint Calculation, BJP received half the funds recieved under the electoral bonds scheme which is now scrapped.
